Fishing camp in the Spanish Pyrenees lasting 1, 2, or 3 weeks, where your children will enjoy fly fishing and learn Spanish, all alongside the Aigüestortes National Park. In addition to fly fishing, there will be Spanish classes, fly-tying workshops, visits to a wildlife center and a fish hatchery, interaction with forest rangers, fishing excursions to mountain lakes, and the opportunity to catch big fish in the rivers at the foothills of the Pyrenees, along with a guided tour of the National Park.

Immersion is the best way to learn a language; children will live with Spanish speakers while practicing the sport they love. All-inclusive, with transfer service from Barcelona airport!

ITINERARY

Start: Barcelona-El Prat Airport (BCN).

Objective of the day: Transfer from Barcelona to our operations center.

Destination: Hostal Noray en Barruera (province of Lleida).

Welcome to Spain! We will personally greet each child upon their arrival at the airport, and this afternoon at 4:00 PM, we will depart in a spacious van taxi heading to Barruera, in the Aiguastortes National Park. The journey will take approximately three hours.

Flight and Reception Safety:
If the minor is traveling alone, the airline provides an unaccompanied minor (UM) service, where the airline staff ensures their well-being during the flight and until arrival. Upon reaching the destination, the airline will hand over the minor to the designated responsible person at the camp, who must verify their identity to receive the child.

Once we arrive at the Noray hostel, we will settle into our rooms and get to know the other children participating in the camp, as well as all the monitors. Then, we will enjoy dinner at the hostel’s restaurant, followed by some time to relax and use their phones to communicate with their families.

Today, we all share excitement and enthusiasm—the perfect combination of feelings to kick off this thrilling fly-fishing camp in the Pyrenees, which will last a week for some and up to two or three weeks for others.

Arrival: Welcome to Spain! Personal greeting for each child at the airport upon their flight arrival. On the first day of camp in Barruera, the adolescents and children have their first experience with fly fishing, participating in a casting class and preparing for a guided morning on a nearby section of the river close to the lodge.

After enjoying lunch and some free time to communicate with their families, they attend a Spanish class and practical workshops on fly tying. The day concludes with a fishing session and a comforting dinner, followed by time for campers to connect with their families.

The goal of this first day is to foster an atmosphere of excitement and camaraderie from the very start of the adventure, as well as to introduce them to fly fishing.

On the third day of camp, the four adolescents, accompanied by the monitor, will travel by car to a small mountain stream located near the Aigüestortes National Park. There, they will have the opportunity to fish for wild zebra trout using dry flies.

At the end of the morning, the monitor and the guide will head to Barruera for lunch at the hostel’s restaurant with the other groups participating in the fly fishing camp. During lunch, they will have the chance to use their mobile phones for half an hour to make calls.

Afterward, there will be a Spanish class followed by a workshop on aquatic insects and water quality. They will then enjoy a snack, participate in a practical fishing session, and end the day with dinner at the Noray restaurant (Barruera).

On Wednesday, we will wake up early, at 6:30 AM. After a hearty breakfast, we will head to the mountains to begin an exciting hiking route through the Posets Maladeta Natural Park. After about an hour of walking, we will reach beautiful mountain streams and lakes, where we will find abundant populations of brown trout and, especially, brook trout, which we will catch using dry fly fishing.

For lunch, each teenager will carry a sandwich and their drink in a backpack.

After lunch, we will collaborate with the park’s maintenance service in conducting a census using electric fishing on the zebra trout populations in the river, preparing areas for their reproduction, or cleaning the river.

In the afternoon, we will return to the car and head to Barruera for dinner.

At night, we will enjoy dinner, and the children will have the opportunity to call their parents.

On Thursday, after breakfast, the morning will begin with the restocking of trout from the fish hatchery in Pont de Suert, which we visited the day before. This release will be carried out by the teenagers, along with members of the fishing club and forest rangers. The rangers will also explain the fishing regulations to the children and show them their roles in the field.

Once this is completed, we will engage in several hours of community service, which will involve cleaning up the natural space around the wetland or repairing small facilities for the conservation of wildlife and the river.

After lunch, as on every day, there will be Spanish classes, followed by a long afternoon of fishing in the river where the brown trout were previously released. In the evening, we will have dinner, and the children will have the opportunity to call their parents.

On this day, the campers will start with breakfast at the Noray restaurant in Barruera. After that, they will head to the Wildlife Recovery Center in Pont de Suert, where they will learn about the breeding of otters and trout in captivity, as well as conservation projects aimed at eradicating invasive species in the National Park.

Following this visit, they will return to the restaurant for lunch. In the afternoon, they will enjoy a long guided fishing session in the river in front of the hostel, which will continue into the evening.

The day will conclude with dinner at the Noray restaurant, followed by a gathering with the other campers, where they will have the opportunity to call their family members before going to sleep.

On the penultimate day, after an early breakfast, we will head to a river in the foothills of the Pyrenees to try and catch large brown trout in a lowland river. The guide will drive the 4 children to the river. We will spend the whole day fishing and having lunch in Barruera, and the youngsters will have the chance to enjoy a delicious paella at a local restaurant.

In the evening, we’ll have a pleasant dinner, and the children will have the opportunity to call their parents.

On Saturday, we will wake up early at 6:30 in the morning. After a hearty breakfast, we will drive to the famous Ebro River, located south of the foothills of the Pyrenees. After approximately 2 hours of travel, we will arrive at a riverside camp that Iván and his team of guides have organized for us. There, we will fish using spinning and other techniques in an attempt to catch the river’s great monsters: catfish that can reach lengths of up to 2.5 meters.

We will have sandwiches for lunch by the river, and in the afternoon, we will return to Barruera for dinner.

In the evening, we will enjoy dinner, and the children will have the opportunity to call their parents.

Included

Accommodation and Meals: Accommodation will be at the Albergue Noray, located in Barruera, on a full board basis. Four meals will be provided daily: breakfast, lunch, snack, and dinner. The main meals will be served in the Noray restaurant, except on excursion days.
Comfortable Accommodation: The rooms are equipped with beds for four children, including sheets, blankets, and towels. Each room is cleaned daily and has a private bathroom.
Qualified Staff: There will be one certified fishing guide for every four children, available 24/7 to supervise activities. Additionally, a coordinator will be in charge of logistics and support as needed.
Fishing Permits: Daily fishing permits will be provided, and parents must obtain the fishing license for free before the start of the camp.
Fishing Equipment: All necessary equipment for fishing and other activities is included. It is recommended that children bring their own gear if they wish. Flies are also included.
Support Vehicle: A support vehicle will be available for transportation to fishing areas.
24/7 Assistance: An emergency phone will be available 24/7 for any needs.
Medical Care: The town has a medical office to address any eventualities.
Special Diets: Meals adapted for individuals with celiac disease and food intolerances will be offered.
Transfers: Transfer service will be provided on the day of arrival and departure to Barcelona-El Prat Airport (BCN).
Insurance: Accident insurance is included for guided fishing activities, as well as liability insurance. The company is legally registered as a travel agency and active tourism provider.

Cancellation insurance: In some cases, such as when a trip must be canceled due to illness, if the deadline specified in the trip details has passed and the appropriate insurance is not in place, the amount specified in the cancellation policy will be forfeited.

Information for participants from outside the EU:

A valid passport with a visa is required to stay in the European Union for the duration of the expedition.
Participants must also have travel health insurance that covers any illness that may occur during the expedition. Accident and liability insurance is included exclusively for the guided river fishing activity for all participants, regardless of whether they are from the EU or from outside the EU.

Cancellation Policy:

For trips canceled less than 90 days before the arrival date, 100% of the reservation amount, corresponding to the total cost of the trip, will be forfeited unless a substitute is found. In the case of cancellations made more than 90 days in advance, 50% of the reservation, which is equivalent to 50% of the total cost of the trip, will be lost if the traveler cannot be replaced. The remaining 50%, if already paid, will be refunded or can be applied to future trips.

Is this fly fishing camp designed for groups of friends who already know each other or for children attending individually?

In general, the camps are made up of boys and girls from different countries who participate individually. However, there are exceptions, as some groups of friends who share a passion for fishing decide to enjoy this experience together.

If you choose to travel alone, like most teens do, you will have the opportunity to join other anglers who speak both English and Spanish and share your love for fishing. Moreover, this environment will allow you to make new friends and learn from the experiences of others. On our website, you can check the available groups, dates, and spots that are still open, so you can choose the option that best fits your interests. We look forward to sharing an unforgettable adventure in Spain with you!

Is prior experience in fly fishing necessary to participate in the camps?

Generally, no previous knowledge of fly fishing is required to attend our camps. However, we highly recommend taking some preliminary classes with an instructor who teaches the basic casting techniques, as this will enhance your overall experience. If you decide to join the camp without prior practice, don’t worry: we maintain a low instructor-to-student ratio (4:1), allowing us to cater to different skill levels of each teen, whether beginner, intermediate, or advanced. Additionally, during the first few days, we will offer casting lessons on the grass. You’ll see that it’s easier than you think!

It’s important to note that your child should have an interest in fly fishing and nature. If not, the camp may not be appealing, so we don’t recommend enrolling them in the summer camp in that case.

Are girls also welcome at these camps?

How do we ensure personalized attention and safety at our fly fishing camps?

The camps stand out for offering personalized attention, with a ratio of 4 children or teens per fly fishing guide. This allows each participant to receive the support needed to improve their fly fishing skills and fosters a safe environment.

Each camp is organized into units composed of one monitor – fly fishing guide and four children. Although participants will interact with other groups and participate in common activities, each group of four children will attend a selected fishing location with the guide, using a vehicle for transportation. These units will be formed based on the participants’ age and skill level in fishing.

Besides the price indicated on the website, are there any additional expenses I should be aware of?

The registration fee covers all meals, accommodation, transportation, fishing gear, and any needs that may arise from our departure from Barcelona until our return. Where will we stay during the trip?

The trip will take place in Barruera, a charming village with 630 inhabitants located by the river and close to Aiguastortes National Park. This picturesque area is home to a church designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site and offers various shops and services, including a medical clinic and a pharmacy. Barruera is characterized by its tranquility, sports facilities, and a beautiful riverside promenade called Salencar de Barruera, which is part of the Natura 2000 Network. This natural environment is ideal for fishing and features accessible trails, interpretive signage about local wildlife, picnic tables, and wooden walkways.

The hostel’s facilities include:

Do you offer fishing equipment rental services?

Yes, we offer rental services for waders, boots, rods, and reels. The rental cost is free, as it is included in the price, although we recommend that participants bring their own equipment.

We will send you a PDF document with recommendations for dry flies, nymphs, and streamers suitable for this fishing camp. Additionally, we will prepare a selection of some flies for you to use during this trip with other teens.

Will I have mobile signal and Wi-Fi access during the trip to communicate with my family?

The Noray hostel has mobile signal and Wi-Fi access. This will be the perfect time to communicate with your family, as mobile phone use will not be allowed while on the river. The monitor will always carry a mobile phone for emergencies and to access emergency contacts, as most fishing areas have coverage.

If the expedition is canceled, will I receive a refund for my reservation?

For trips canceled less than 90 days in advance, 100% of the reservation will be forfeited, which corresponds to the total cost of the trip (unless a substitute is found). If the cancellation occurs more than 90 days in advance, 50% of the reservation will be forfeited, corresponding to 50% of the total cost of the trip, unless a replacement is found. The remaining 50% will be refunded or can be used for future trips.

Are there any discounts available?

We offer a 10% discount for groups of friends who book four spots together.

How can I make the payment?

Generally, payment should be made via bank transfer to our account or through a virtual payment gateway as follows:

Reservation confirmation: 50% deposit upon confirming the reservation.
Remaining 50%: BEFORE 60 days prior to the start of the trip.
